Some of you might say, "Excel isn't free" but it is! Thanks to the internet and Microsoft pretty much owning everything, you have access to free Excel. At least online. You can create an Outlook account separately but if you have a windows computer, it's most likely that you already have one. Same deal with Google Sheets. If you have a Gmail account, that's enough! You'll find that I mostly use Sheets for my work and that's because I think it's more publicly accessible and easier to use online. Totally up to your preference!
The videos below are some of the tools/formula I use on the daily. I don't claim ownership or credit for any of them. It just doesn't make sense to reinvent the wheel when someone else has already done a great job! Send the credits to the creators, I'm sure they'll appreciate it! 😀
If none of them exactly fits your needs, try Googling with key words! Search engines are pretty good with reading minds nowadays.
You can also use vlookup to join multiple tables together (requires primary IDs).
Correlation is very useful when trying to find the linear relationship between two variables. Use with caution! Correlation does not mean causation!
Pivot Table allows users to slice and dice the data without fancy formulas! It can count all (or distinct count) values, sum, difference, etc.
Query allows user to only show values in table from strict parameters. If you have multiple schools, you can use this to cut and slice the data more easily!
Conditional Formatting visually helps users identify the value they're looking for. It is typically used to highlight at-risk/on-track students.
IF function allows the user to test conditions. For example, if a student's score is <100, write "off-track" else "on-track".
IF + AND or OR function allows users to test conditions based on multiple variables! A little complicated but super useful and a timesaver once mastered!
